Minimum Criteria:
What are the minimum criteria for joining?
You should have a written / declared policy on
responsible tourism. This should be based on the three
basic principles of Responsible Tourism - economic,
social and environmental impacts. Your claims should be
transparent, specific and measurable.
From our experience in the industry, many properties
already adhere to the many of the three basic principles
of responsible tourism, but they have simply not taken
the initiative to write these down.
For example, a property we regularly send our guests to;
ensures that for every guest who stays with them, they
plant a sapling or two (with the participation of the
guests). This has definitely increased the green cover
in that location. This effort also supports initiatives
in offsetting carbon emissions from flying. However, as
they had not declared this anywhere, few people were
aware of this initiative.
Writing down the policies helps you to become more
focused and streamlined in terms of how you can improve
your business. Written policies also ensure that your
employees are aware of the organizational policies and
this reflects in terms of how they treat guests and in
turn provide a better service. This also increases the
stature of your organisation in the eyes of the guests
and the travel industry.
If you still don’t have responsible
travel polices and are unsure of how to formulate these,
please
write to us. One of our team
members will be happy to provide you with guidelines and
will help you prepare this based on your work. |
